Herringbone/Parquet Flooring

The customer asked Decorus to install a Herringbone floor with a border.

Bespoke Herringbone

Firstly, Decorus decided that the direction of the floor would suit the architectural feature of the room, the fireplace. Then, Decorus prepped the floor, laying down Plywood and removing any dust. Decorus created a centre line to follow throughout, followed by a base line and diagonal lines that were followed throughout the installation. The border has a two-block detail and as it was not fitted around the edge of the room, the floor joints had to meet precisely on either side. The pattern on either side of the border also had to match exactly.

Then Decorus finished the job with a sand and seal. The floor was sanded with a Bona Belt, which is a high-performance sanding machine. A seal was then added which consisted of two coast of wax oil and will preserve the longevity of the floor.

This project was testament to Decorus’ skill and craftsmanship, calling for fine attention to detail. Herringbone is a traditional flooring pattern, and here, has a modern edge.
